Bell & Gong

Superior Craftsmanship for Clear Sound

Kockum Sonics ensures clear, resonant tones by using heavy bronze for their Bell & Gong. Other critical components are crafted from stainless steel, guaranteeing durability and premium sound quality. Additionally, electronic versions are also available.

Compliance with International Regulations

According to the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (1972), Rule 33, vessels 20m or longer must carry a bell. Ships of 100m or more require both instruments. Kockum Sonics offers high-quality solutions  specifically designed to meet these regulations.

Bell & Gong – Products

Electronic Bell and Gong BG 300

The Electronic Bell and Gong system BG 300 is designed for vessels at anchor, particularly in restricted visibility. It complies with the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (1972), Rule 33. According to these regulations, vessels 12 meters or longer must have a bell, while vessels over 100 meters must also be equipped with a gong. The gong must produce a tone distinct from the bell, ensuring no confusion between the two sounds. The system delivers a sound pressure level of at least 110 dB at 1 meter, meeting these regulatory requirements.

General Information

The Bell and Gong sound emitters in the BG 300 system are electrodynamic, compact, and aesthetically designed. Their small size provides advantages over other bulky loudspeaker designs, enhancing both functionality and appearance. Modern electronics power the system, with the BG 300 amplifier controlling the sound emitters. The system provides the signal characters required by regulations for “ship aground” and “ship at anchor” situations.

To operate the system, crew members can activate the bell and gong through pushbuttons on the bridge, which connect directly to the BG 300 power amplifier. The recorded and synthesized sounds of real bell and gong instruments ensure the signals have an authentic, distinct tone.

Power Amplifier BG 300

The BG 300 power amplifier incorporates advanced technology, delivering authentic bell and gong sounds. It requires only 24V DC (7A) for operation, with a maximum output power of 2 x 120W. The amplifier is designed for indoor installation and must be protected from water, ensuring long-lasting performance in harsh marine environments.

This efficient, compact system ensures compliance with maritime safety regulations while offering reliable and clear sound signaling for vessels in restricted visibility.

Bell and Gong System

The Electromechanical Bell and Gong system is essential for vessels at anchor or aground, especially in restricted visibility conditions. It fully adheres to the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (1972), Rule 33. According to the regulations, vessels 20 meters or longer must have a bell, while those exceeding 100 meters are required to have both a bell and a gong. The Bell KB30 and Gong KG50, equipped with electromagnetic strikers, effectively meet these regulatory requirements.

General Information

Crafted from heavy bronze, the Bell KB30 and Gong KG50 deliver clear, resonant tones, ensuring reliable signaling. Additionally, the system is built with durability in mind, incorporating stainless steel for critical components. Furthermore, an electronic timer controls the system, which is conveniently mounted on the panel. The timer also features an operating switch and three LED indicators to provide easy monitoring of the system’s status.

Moreover, the bell and gong units deliver strong, powerful strokes, contributing to consistent performance. For stable operation, it is essential to securely mount the support structures in a horizontal position using four M10 bolts. Additionally, during signaling, locking the cabinet doors is crucial for maintaining the system’s integrity.

Altogether, this robust system ensures dependable performance and guarantees full compliance with international maritime safety regulations, providing a reliable solution for vessels in challenging marine environments.
