MTX 150/130 electrically driven piston whistle, suitable for vessels with a LOA >200m.
General Information
The ELECTRO–TYFON® MTX 150/130 is an electrically driven piston ship’s whistle. It features minimal moving parts, a “swinging piston,” a cylinder that requires no lubrication, and an oil-free gearbox.
Key Features
- Unsymmetrical Sound Distribution: The design ensures the sound is distributed unevenly for efficient signaling.
- Adaptability: It operates effectively in all temperatures without additional measures.
- Stability: The whistle remains unaffected by voltage and frequency fluctuations.
- Maintenance-Free: The whistle is oil-free, non-corrosive, and requires no maintenance.
- Easy Installation: Simplified installation process.
- Compliance: Fully complies with International Regulations IMO 1972.
All-Temperature Operation
The ELECTRO–TYFON® MTX 150/130 delivers high performance in both arctic and tropical climates. Its patented system, featuring a high-efficiency rectangular horn and a specially designed motor, automatically adjusts the motor speed to match the horn’s acoustic resonance, regardless of ambient temperature. This ensures the whistle remains unaffected by onboard voltage and frequency fluctuations.
Unsymmetrical Sound Distribution
IMO Regulations demand a high Sound Pressure Level for effective signaling, but the sound level at the vessel’s listening posts should not exceed 110 dBA. To solve this, the whistle is typically placed high above the deck. However, if the highest point is insufficient, doubling the distance between the listening post and the whistle can reduce noise by 6 dB.

General Information
The Signal Controller Ti98 is a robust, user-friendly, and cost-effective solution for both whistle and Morse light operations. Designed for easy installation on various vessel types, it combines reliability with efficiency. Its key features include a membrane key panel and an LCD matrix display that presents all vital information at a glance. The panel illumination, which uses red light, is adjustable through dimmer buttons for optimal visibility. Additional key features are:
- “Whistle activated” output
- General Emergency Alarm (GEA) input
- External push-button input for activating selected outputs
- Separate power supplies for whistle and Morse light/lantern
- Options for automatic or manual control of signal characters
- Customizable signal characters for automatic mode
Automatic and Manual Signaling
The Ti98 controller supports automatic signaling with five pre-set signal characters, and users can enable up to five more through the software. These signal characters can be applied to the whistle, Morse light, or both, allowing flexible operation. The signal period time can be set to 60, 90, or 120 seconds. If the automatics are active, pressing the manual button on the panel or an external button will immediately deactivate them. You can adjust the characters and period time with the automatics either on or off, with an LED indicator showing the current status.
In manual mode, the push button on the panel activates the selected outputs displayed on the screen. This action deactivates the automatic mode instantly.
Additional Functions
The “Whistle active” function not only triggers a potential-free relay output when the whistle operates but also facilitates seamless integration with systems like Kockum Sonics’ S90 Sound Signal Surveillance System. This feature proves particularly useful, as it can mute the ship’s whistle when necessary. Furthermore, the GEA function, which is controlled by an external relay, immediately halts the automatics and activates all connected signals, while displaying “EXTERNAL ALARM.” Once the final signal is activated, a 5-second timeout occurs before the unit smoothly transitions back to normal operations.

General Information
The TLG2000 serves as a highly versatile sound and light signal controller, handling multiple critical functions essential for maritime safety. Not only does it provide automatic sound and light signals in compliance with the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, but it also offers a General Emergency Alarm (GEA) that combines both sound and light signals. Furthermore, the system includes automatic bell and gong signaling for anchoring and aground scenarios. Operators can choose to control all functions manually or automatically, allowing for greater operational flexibility.
TYFON®, Morse Light, and Bell & Gong Signaling
The TLG2000 supports eight distinct TYFON® signal characters, which can emit at variable intervals. Additionally, these signals function either as sound-only or as a combination of sound and Morse light signals, ensuring full compliance with Rule 35 of the International Regulations. Moreover, the system facilitates optical Morse light signals for attention and maneuvering, adhering to Rule 34. For vessels at anchor, the TLG2000 provides repeating bell and gong signals, further enhancing overall safety during operations.
Configuration and Customization
Although the TLG2000 typically operates efficiently with its factory settings, some installations may, in fact, require specific adjustments. When powering up the system, users can enter configuration mode to customize four important functions:
- Fore TYFON Indicator: If two whistles are connected with more than 100 meters between them, simultaneous sounding is prohibited. Therefore, the indicator can be enabled or disabled to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Bell & Gong Function: By default, the system supports an electro-mechanical bell and gong. However, if this feature is unnecessary, users can disable it, and the LED will flash to indicate inactivity.
- GEA and Abandon Ship Activation: Users can select from three activation modes for the GEA or Abandon Ship signals, depending on whether continuous or pulsed activation is needed.
- Morse Light Response Time: Users can also adjust the response time for external Morse light activation, enhancing signal timing precision.
To fully meet Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) standards, proper electrical installation is crucial. It is important to secure cables to prevent strain on terminal blocks, which support cable diameters up to 2.5mm².
